We are lighting the way towards a more creative future. We do this by unlocking the creativity of Mitsui’s 44,000 strong global workforce to build innovative businesses that will have an exponential impact on the world.
Even though the world was on pause in 2020, that did not stop us from fulfilling our purpose. In fact, we saw opportunity in this new remote-first world and there are plenty of achievements to celebrate. This past fiscal year, we built our own idea collaboration platform called SMAP, and opened it up to receive ideas from anyone within Mitsui who may have a passion or purpose to create something new. After launching the new SMAP in March 2021, we received 18 new Individual Ideas submitted from all over the world and spanning a number of industries including art, education, entertainment, femtech and wellness.
This year, we also expanded our work to include Organizational Ideas. These ideas come from teams, task forces or organizations within Mitsui that want to create a new business in support of its organizational goals and objectives.
With Moon’s talented community of entrepreneurs, product managers, designers, marketers, engineers and more, we also have plenty of venture ideas ourselves! We call these Moon-originated ideas, Moon Originals. And finally, looking towards the future— we have Future-Leading Projects that have the potential to reimagine an industry or our world.
Even as the pandemic kept us physically apart, our work at Moon did not stop. We worked together with our Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EIRs) to ask tough questions, experiment fast, build, fail and learn. We’re continuously inspired by our EIRs hard work, determination, passion and courage to bring their ideas to life. And we are even more encouraged about their personal transformations on this journey.
Moon is currently incubating 19 ventures with Entrepreneurs-in-Residence from all over the world.
